The brainchild of Maftuna Rakhimova, a visionary at 27 with roots in Uzbekistan and a background as an Irani, and her husband, Hasan Kargar (whose father is Afghan and mother is from Uzbekistan), this upcoming establishment promises to transcend the ordinary.
Formerly a manufacturing engineer for Collins Aerospace in Connecticut, Rakhimova’s journey to Erie was prompted by job changes, and she envisions The 5th Street Bakery as more than just another confectionery – it’s a testament to resilience and dreams taking shape. Anticipated to open its doors in late November, this bakery/coffee house at the corner of Fifth and State streets is poised to redefine culinary expectations.
Adding to its allure, The 5th Street Bakery will showcase a unique blend of American and Turkish traditions, Alongside typical American baked goods, patrons can indulge in the rich flavors of Turkish coffee, as well as savor a Turkish breakfast that Middle Easterners in Erie will recognize as truly authentic.
